Cambodian Fishing Village

As part of our first day tour around Siem Reap, our driver took us to a fishing village (either Komphong Khleuang or Komphong Phluk, I don't remember)

We rented a larger boat to take us through the fishing village (it was $100! for only an hour! I am 99.99% sure that the taxi driver was lying to us, ripping us off, and sharing the kick-backs with the boat "captain" and the ticket vendor)

And there was this guy, with his super small "shorts"

Very different than the fishing village we went to in Ha Long Bay (Vietnam). Probably because this one is in a massive man-made lake, so they can put their houses on stilts. The lake will quadruple in size during the rainy season.

Ta Prohm - Tomb Raider Temple of Cambodia

My family and I spent 3 days/ 3 nights in Siem Reap, Cambodia, home of Angor Wat and many other Hindu and Buddhist temples. 

The first day we were there, we hired our taxi driver (with his van) for one day ($35). He took us to outlying temples, including my favorite one of the trip, Ta Prohm (also called "Tomb Raider" temple, either because it was in the movie or because it should have been).

What makes Ta Prohm special is that over the years that the temple was left in ruins, the trees started taking over. They became a part of the temple structure, and now the excavation and reconstruction efforts of Ta Prohm include the trees as part of the landscape.

Definitely worth checking out; I've never seen anything like it.

Don't know if this is a part of the healing process or the burn blister getting infected by the nasty Ho Chi Minh smog, but the burn area looks so nasty right now :

It itches; I really hope that's a good sign

Evolution of a burn from a scooter

To get back from Angor Thom (part of Angor Wat attraction) my dad and I took a scooter... We rode on the back and it was sketch as hell. More importantly, when I got off the back of the bike I had this searing pain on thre inside of my right calf. At first I thought I had cut myself but there was no blood. Then I realized it was a super painful burn. 

The stages- (I found them fascinating; you might find them gross)

Half hour after (4pm)

Next morning 8 am

11am - nasty painful blister

Day 2- 9am

7pm- gross fake tumor

Day 3- 10am

Now - day 5 (almost gone!)

Weird signs in Siem Reap

I want to spend time doing the Angor Wat posts but while I'm still on vacation with my family here are some weird signs we saw in Siem Reap (Cambodia)

6-Eleven (like 7-11 but not so fancy)

Lot of signs on this one street for 'Happy Pizza', 'Ecstatic Pizza', and subtle use of the word 'herbs'

These signs were EVERYWHERE - for some zip lining adventure outside the city. Really creepy signs
