I lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for a year and a half, and Mardi Gras was a big deal. Lots of parades to see in New Orleans, tons of bead necklaces everywhere, and someone from work would bring in a King's cake every day.
There was none of that in Laos. But I got homesick for the South (which is a rare occurrence; I'm very much a Seattle girl) so I made sweet tea. Not as good as Louisianian sweet tea but still pretty good.
Happy belated Mardi Gras, Louisiana; laissez les bon temps rouler !
